What Matters Most

Governor Kathleen Sebelius said yesterday that the reason she hosted George Tiller and his staff for a private dinner or party event at the Governor's Mansion on April 9, 2006, was because he won it as an auction item at the 2006 TORCH dinner given by the Greater Kansas City Women's Political Caucus.

While the only Sebelius donation on the original list of auction items was a pewter bowl, www.kansasmeadowlark.com now reports that the KC Star Primebuzz of September 21, 2006 said under "Torch Tidbits" that " A late-arriving from Wichita Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius also was well received, particularly when she offered up as an unexpected auction item dinner for six with her and the First Dude at the Governor's Mansion."

Kansans for Life Executive Director, Mary Kay Culp said:
"It doesn't matter if the Tiller party was an extension of the TORCH auction dinner for six, or another event altogether as the source of the pictures claims. What matters most is that late-term abortionist George Tiller and his entire staff got to party-hardy at our tax-funded Governor's mansion while he was under criminal investigation by the attorney general! That ought to matter to every citizen, no matter what their abortion stance.

    He probably won because noone else bid on it -- it was designed with Tiller in mind. It's no secret here in KS that Tiller pours tons of money into her campaign and that she has been protecting him all along. Without Sebelius, he would have been prosecuted a long time ago.

Saint Michael de Sanctis: Patron of Cancer Patients

Today is the feast of Saint Michael de Sanctis, also known as St. Michael of the Saints, a Spanish Discalced Trinitarian priest, the patron of cancer patients. Michael Argemir was born on September 29, 1591 at Vic, Catalonia, Spain. At age 6, he told his parents that he planned to become a monk and began modeling his life after Saint Francis of Assisi. Michael’s parents died when he was about ten years old. He then served as an apprentice with a local merchant. During this apprenticeship, he continued his fervent devotion to the Lord, especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Saint Gerard of Brogne: Patron of Abbots

St. Gerard was born to a noble family in Staves, Belgium, in 895. He descended from a royal line of military men and at first felt a share in this call to arms. He trained for the army and, as a page of the count of Namur, he was sent on a special mission to the French court. There, Gerard realized that he was being called to the monastic life. He stayed in France and joined the Benedictines of St. Denis, abandoning his noble birthright and all his worldly possessions. He spent eleven years in France as a monk before becoming a priest. Following his ordination, he left for Belgium in order to found a new abbey on his own estate of Brogne. He was its abbot for twenty-two years and during that period was instrumental in introducing St. Benedict's Rule into numerous houses in Flanders, Lorraine and Champagne.He became known for his engaging sweetness of temper, his strict observance of the Rule of St. Benedict and for the replacement of lukewarm religious practice with true piety.
