New Swiss Guard recruits sworn In at the Vatican




May 6, 2013. (Romereports.com)  These are the 35 new Swiss Guard recruits, who swore before the Guard's flag to defend the Pope.

Through this simple ceremony, and after several months of training, the new recruits take their place in the world's smallest army. Only 110 soldiers are tasked with defending the 108 acres of Vatican territory, but above all, to protect the Pope.
